"Helping children understand their rights & responsibilities in the real and virtual world"

Greece None

International Children's Day will be celebrated this year on Sunday, November 20, with the aim of promoting international cohesion and well-being among children around the world. This day also marks the date on which the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention and Declaration on the Rights of the Child. In view of the celebration, the Council of Europe as part of its program "Digital Citizenship Education" [1]), translated children's rights into actions for parents and teachers to help children understand their rights and responsibilities at every moment of their lives. The booklet "Helping children understand their rights and responsibilities in the real and virtual world" have been written by ladies Janice Richardson and Dr. Veronika Samaras, partners of the Council of Europe, and is the third of a series of information brochures regarding digital citizenship education. You can find the brochure in Greek at the following web addresses: Brochure for parents: https://rm.coe.int/prems -159921-grc-2511-depliant-world-children-day-for-parents-a4-web/1680a4cbab Pamphlet for teachers: https://rm.coe.int/prems-160021-grc-2511-depliant-world-children -s-day-for-teachers-a4-we/1680a4cbac=============================== What does it mean to be digital citizen[2]Digital citizens know how to use technology wisely and how to behave online. They know how to protect their rights and information, and are careful about the rights of the people they communicate and interact with online. Digital citizens know how to collaborate in a meaningful way, both online and offline, and contribute positively to online activities that they are relentlessly shaping the digital environment. They are receptive to other cultures and others' points of view, capitalizing on the positive aspects of the online environment in which they choose to move, and avoiding the negative ones. Digital citizens are also aware that lifelong learning is necessary to keep pace with rapid changes brought about by digital technology in the world.[1]https://www.coe.int/en/web/digital-citizenship-education/home?desktop=true[2]From the booklet: “A few easy steps to to help your child become a Digital Citizen":https://edoc.coe.int/en/human-rights-democratic-citizenship-and-interculturalism/8171--easy-steps-to-help-your-child- become-a-digital-citizen.html
