Bangladesh Employees 'Abandon' Business amid Lack of Human Resources

Bangladesh None

Crisis of lacking workers is being felt in all sectors of the economy, turning into one of the sharpest problems of businesses. From bread producers, confectioners, meat processors, furniture, bar-restaurants to the lack of truck drivers in transport, the problem is deepening, translating into high cost increases. In addition to the difficulties in finding employees, businesses are also facing the phenomenon of the departure of Asian employees, mainly those from Bangladesh who use Albania as a springboard to emigrate to Europe."Due to the lack of manpower, a few months ago we hired 6 employees from Bangladesh, with experience in wood processing, who left the workplace without notice after 3 months of work. This is a cost for the business, including the frequent salary increases we make to the current employees", the manager of the wood processing factory FPM Tutto Mobili, Mr. Ilir Linza. Earlier, the case of removal of 7 employees from Bangladesh was also raised by exporters of raw material of animal products.Faced with the risk of leaving employees, as is happening with some other businesses, companies are considering hiring employees from Egypt as an experimental phase, as there is no other way to find human resources.Dritan Cacaj, the manager of the furniture company "Trin Mobileri", claimed earlier that from September 2022 the sector suffers from a lack of labor force. For this reason, an employment agency has been approached to recruit 10 employees from Egypt with similar experience in their country for wood processing.Meat processors are also facing difficulties with the marked lack of labor force. The administrator of the "Tona" company, Nikolla Tona, says that 30% of the workforce is missing, as they have left for Germany. He claims that so far he has managed to replace 20% of them with locals, but none of them are qualified employees, affecting the production yield. The president of the Association of Bread, Pastries and Doughs, Gëzim Peshkopia, claims that the marked lack of employees is being felt in bakeries and pastry shops. Mr. Peshkopia describes the lack of workers as the "Achilles heel" for the sector.Due to the departure of employees from Asian countries, which is happening in other sectors of the economy, bread producers have been deprived of hiring foreigners.Mr. Peshkopia recommends that the solution to this problem should be provided by the state institutions through the drafting of a national plan, where each of the sectors will extract data on the demand for the missing workforce and then the recruitment agencies will be controlled by the state. The Association of Bars and Restaurants stated that it lacks 15,000 employees, where the main reason remains emigration, mainly of young people. Before the pandemic crisis in 2019, according to INSTAT data, the number of employees in these structures reached 45,000 employees. To solve this problem, businesses have been looking for employees from the Philippines for 3 months. The Association of Bars and Restaurants recommends as a solution the involvement in this pronounced lack of labor force of the Roma community of Albania through state employment offices. The association expresses its willingness to launch voluntary training for this category of society in order to employ them in bars and restaurants, but requests the intervention of the state so that the request for employment is channeled through the state employment offices.(Source: Monitor)
