The General Prosecutor of Albania, Olsian Çela, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with his Montenegrin counterpart, Milorad Markovic, during the Second Consultative Forum of the General and Special Prosecutors held in Tirana on June 16–17.Through this memorandum, the parties commit to cooperating and enhancing joint efforts to address serious crime, illicit trafficking, and money laundering.The memorandum provides for the exchange of information on crime trends and developments, the safeguarding of fundamental human rights and freedoms, the legal systems and legislation of both countries, and actions to bolster the enforcement of laws within the jurisdiction of both parties, and, if necessary, with regard to best international practices.Furthermore, the parties commit to consultations on general legal issues, particularly to facilitate the exchange of information throughout the preparation, review, and execution of mutual legal assistance requests. They also pledge to ensure compliance with data protection regulations, encourage joint research on topics of mutual interest, and organize expert meetings and seminars pertinent to the activities of both institutions.Employing this Memorandum of Understanding, the parties further engage to facilitate expert visits aimed at fostering knowledge enhancement and the exchange of expertise acquired by both institutions.
