Τον γάμο τέλεσε η Αντιδήμαρχος Τουρισμού του Δήμου Δυτικής Λέσβου, Αφροδίτη Βατή, η οποία επισήμανε τη σημασία της στιγμής, κάνοντας λόγο για «ένα σημαντικό βήμα προόδου, ισότητας και αποδοχής».Το ζευγάρι, που γνωρίστηκε πριν από επτά περίπου χρόνια, επέλεξε την Ερεσό για να νομιμοποιήσει τη σχέση του, τιμώντας με τον τρόπο αυτό τον τόπο που γέννησε τη Σαπφώ. The ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Mayor for Tourism of the Municipality of Western Lesvos, Afroditi Vati, who highlighted the significance of the moment, describing it as “an important step forward for progress, equality, and acceptance.”The couple, who met approximately seven years ago, chose Eresos as the place to legalize their relationship — a tribute to the birthplace of Sappho. As they themselves stated, Eresos is no longer just a destination for them, but a part of their lives.Ms. Vati emphasized that Eresos is a place of freedom and acceptance, “where everyone can be themselves.” She also pointed to the prospects developing within thematic tourism — both in terms of wedding tourism and LGBTQ+ tourism — where Eresos has long established fertile ground. “This event brings together two overlapping tourism markets,” she noted. “Eresos is a place that for decades has attracted mostly women,” she added, making special reference to the long-standing Women’s Festival held every September, which effectively extends the tourist season. Every year, women from around the world choose this small corner of the Aegean repeatedly, even after most other tourists have left the island.It’s worth mentioning the SAPHO FESTIVAL, organized for the second consecutive year by the North Aegean Region."A historic moment"Returning to the couple’s wedding, Ms. Vati underlined the historic nature of the event in her statement to the local newspaper "E", calling it an important milestone that highlights the values of a modern and inclusive municipality, open to all citizens.She further noted that the message conveyed by this event is that Eresos is a destination where every visitor can live beautiful moments with the person they choose to share their life with — far from social stereotypes.Finally, it is worth noting that right after the civil ceremony at the Community office, a second, more romantic ceremony followed, curated by MENTA WEDDINGS. The wedding reception took place on the beach of Skala Eresou, surrounded by friends and loved ones.
